Got up Friday as usual, was playing Tiger woods 2007 on PS2, just got it the day before. We had just laughed at the weather man the night before because they said some minor snow in the valley areas (south of Buffalo,t he traditional "Snow Belt" areas. Next thing i know there's and inch, then 3 than 12, than 18" WTF branches hanging low, lots of sloppy wetness everywhere. Had the radio on and they were talking about the road and all the accidents. Meh, it's Buffalo no big deal. PM i had dinner made and we say down and started to watch the Simpson's and have dinner, 50 power went out for about 30 seconds. 510 went out for about 30 seconds. 520 power went out till Wednesday afternoon!!! This posed several problems, wet sow = water in about 5 hours, so the sump hole backed up. Fridge kept everything cold and or frozen for about 36 hours (brand new fridge). Furnace may be gas but need electric to run. So back to Thursday night. Melissa had to work so she got ready and off she went. I was bored sitting in the dark so i picked up my son, who never lost power and we went out int he slop (4wd rules!!!) and got the stuff for his Halloween costume (Undertaker from WWE). I got home and the Temp inside was down to 61 degrees. About 10 pm i was bored and pulled out the sleeper sofa cuz it was about 10 degrees colder upstairs, got my comforter and slept with the nice warm dogs underneath the comforter. I woke up sweating at one point. Get a call about AM, Melissa re-mined me to check the basement. Sure enough there was some water on the floor. Couldn't' do anything about it in the dark so i went back to sleep about 8 am i get a Call from Melissa, 90% of the day staff called in and she had to stay at work, she ended up leaving about 1130 am (been there since 7 pm the previous night) took her about 45 minutes to make the normal 20 minute ride home. Problem was, the weight of the wet snow caused thousands and thousands of trees to come down. IT looked like some tree hating warlord came through and attacked all the trees. So about 930 i hit the roads, no working traffic lights, people being stupid and not treating it like a 4 way stop as they should. Went to Lowe's (Like home depot but better, don't think they are in Canada yet) to see if the had a generator, they sold out with in half an hour of opening. I was walking out with just a shovel (didn't have one) and caught a kerosene heater for $125, bought that and off i went to find kerosene. None to be found in Tonawanda, Amherst or Buffalo. Ended going up to Niagara Falls, USA to get some at home depot. Got the living room up to 67 degrees from 53 degrees in about 1.5 hours, i highly recommend having one on hand for just such emergencies, but please read the manual and be careful. All the snow was gone by Friday evening as the temps were in the low 50's there after and i thing up to the 60's by sunday. My cell phone lost power about 5pm Friday so i had to use Melissa's and hope to charge mine in the car overnight, well my car charger didn't' work. get a cal on Mellisa's phone from my sister, she was at work and they were on generator (she is the News director at WBEN radio) went there and charged my phone and made some call to find a generator, found a couple in Ohio and departed making the 3 hour drive to Cleveland. On the way home they said expect power to be out for about a week. went home and threw Melissa and the dogs into the truck and took them to her sisters in Angola where they never lost power. Her step father in law and i went down to stow Ohio where i had arranged for them to hold the last 2 5700 watt generators they had (Troy Built, last forever type stuff, and of course American made). Ben, father in law also bought a chain saw to clean up the yards. so $1700 later we had 2 generators (i had a 10% off coupon ) a Poulan Chainsaw, some cords and off were were to make the 3 hours drive home. Got it all set up by 1045 pm and the basement was pumped out, we had the fridge on and a tv, but no cable, so Sunday was spent looking for an antenna (again, Niagara Falls USA cam e into play). and thats how life was pretty much up until today!
The Sabres game went on as planed because th arena never lost power, like most of the City of Buffalo, the burbs were hit the hardest. The areanawas full cuz they had heat Adan cold beer!!!
My back yard, down the street, some the next day and some from Sunday
