I took the day off to go shooting with my uncle. He is a recent cancer survivor and he got this gun right before he got cancer and never got to shoot it. So, this Monday was the first day he felt like getting out. He wanted me to go with him to shoot his guns. He isn't well enough to shoot them himself. Anyway, he had a few big hand guns that he wanted me to try. A 45/70, a 460 and a S&W Magnum 500.
Well, I shot all the others very well. I grouped them on the targets perfectly and I was shooting good.
But, we got to the elephant dropping Magnum 500. I started off with a lightly loaded round. It didn't kick much more than the 460. So, I decided to step it up to a factory round. Anyway, I got set up and ready to shoot.
Here is the problem. Because the first round was weak, I didn't hold the gun in the way I thought I should. I held it like the gun was designed to be held. MISTAKE!!! I put my left hand on the front grip instead of reinforcing my right handle hand. The gun just overpowered my right arm. The gun shot back and the scope glanced off of my protective glasses and cut my forehead. I didn't feel much. It stunned me good though. You want to talk about apowerful gun. Well, that is a man's gun.
The good news was though...I HIT THE TARGET! It made it worth it. Oh, and I did shoot it again just to be able to say that I could tame the gun.lol It was also a hit... on the target. No more cuts.
Couple more pics for comparison...
Pics of said target and shell (shell is pointing to the hit):
Magnum 500 round compared to a regular .22 shot and a penny:
Magnum 500 round compared to a S&W 40 round:
Magnum 500 round compared to a 357 Magnum round:
And finally, the gun it self comapered to my Glock 27:
Enjoy. _________________ Born to be hated; Dying to be loved. |

My uncle named the gun "8 Stitches" because, well, that's how many stitches it took to put my back together.lol
Two things I learned...
1)Safety glasses are required for a reason. Always wear them. I would be blind in one eye if it wasn't for my flasses. Best $10 I ever spent.
2)Guns are not to be taken lightly. Respect them at all times. (This was more of a reinforcement experience for me actually. I have been around guns since I could walk.) _________________ Born to be hated; Dying to be loved. |

The first one I shot was either a 80 or 180. I can't understand my uncle sometimes.lol He loaded those himself so there was no markings. The second one that popped me was a 440 factory bullet. I shot the 440 one more time to so I knew that I could shoot it.lol _________________ Born to be hated; Dying to be loved. |
